Eligibility Requirements
Membership
- Wisconsin Chapter NATS members must be in good standing with the national and state offices by September 1 in order to register students in the fall auditions.
- National members new to the state of Wisconsin who are in good standing with the National Association may enter their students in the Auditions if they pay their state dues by October 1, 2009.
- NATS members may not enter themselves or students of another teacher in the auditions.
- NATS members may participate in the Graduate Adult Division if they are studying with another Wisconsin NATS teacher and they meet the division requirements.
- Teachers may enter each student in one division only.
- Students are not allowed to enter themselves in the audition. Teachers must process all entrance forms and communicate directly with audition personnel.
Teacher Absenteeism
- Any teacher who enters students in the Auditions must be available to judge the preliminary, semi-final, or final round of the auditions.
- If a teacher is unable to judge, s/he will pay a $50 absentee fee and be limited to entering no more than five students.
- A teacher may not invoke this privilege in two consecutive years. In two or more consecutive years of absenteeism the teacher’s students may not participate in the Auditions until the teacher once again attends the Auditions him/herself.
Entrance Limitations
- First Place winners in a division may not compete in that same division again; they should proceed to a different division.
- Students may not repeat Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior and Continuing Senior divisions.
- All other divisions are repeatable - see the Performance Guidelines for specifics.
- NATSAA entrants who have advanced to Regional Auditions are not eligible to enter the Student Auditions.
Disqualification
Students may be disqualified and awards can be rescinded at any time before, during, or after the Auditions for any of the following reasons:
- The student is accompanied by his/her own teacher
- Misrepresentation of eligibility, age, length of study, or instructor
- Repertoire infractions
Copyright Compliance
The National Website states, "Performers in NATS sponsored auditions... shall perform from lawful editions and shall support and obey the law relative to copyright."
- No Photocopies are allowed in the performance except for page turns.
- Out of print music is acceptable if written permission from the publisher is present at the audition.
- Music purchased and generated at a store and music generated at websites such as sheetmusic.com may be used if there is proof of purchase (receipt, e-mail, letter) present at the audition.
- CD-ROM printed music will be accepted if the performers have the CD-ROM present at their audition.
