Repertoire Requirements
Language Rule: All repertoire must be sung in the original language except where American performance practices have determined otherwise. This rule applies to all divisions.
Memorization: All repertoire must be sung from memory except for oratorio, mass, or cantata arias.
Spirituals/Folk Songs: Such arrangements may be used in the art song category.
Aria Definition: An aria is a solo taken from an opera, oratorio, mass, cantata, or works titled “concert aria”. Oxford Online definitions will be used for the purposes of this audition. For example, Purcell’s selections from the semi-operas and masques are considered songs.
Musical Theater: Only selections from stage musicals can be used; no TV, film musicals or popular songs allowed. Operetta arias will be allowed only in the Musical Theater divisions.
