WI Auditions Mission Statement and Goals

Former NATS President Roy Delp believed that “the idea of constructive criticism along with encouragement” is at the heart of our student auditions. "Perhaps one of the greatest ties that binds us together as NATS members is the care we have for the students of our colleagues, as demonstrated at our student auditions.” (Journal of Singing, 2000, Vol.57, No.1 p.2)

Mission Statement
The Wisconsin State Chapter of NATS is committed to providing inspirational and educational opportunities for its members and their students.

The Fall Audition offers all students the chance to reach a personal performance goal in an atmosphere of support and respect, thereby nurturing a cooperative effort towards the highest standards of artistry and technique.

Goals
The Wisconsin State NATS Auditions were created with the following goals:
  • Provide an opportunity for students at all stages of vocal study to audition in a clearly defined division with other students of similar age and/or length of study.
  • Include all students who are willing to prepare appropriate repertoire and who might benefit from the experience of auditioning.
  • Provide an open environment, giving students and teachers the opportunity to hear other singers.
  • Maintain general guidelines and repertoire requirements that provide freedom to choose material best suited for each student.
  • Provide an opportunity to sing before qualified and impartial judges.
  • Recognize outstanding achievement and talent by appropriate awards.
  • Afford opportunities for professional growth for teachers by sharing ideas, encountering new repertoire and hearing other teachers? students.
  • Require that teachers who enter students also serve as judges for the Auditions and/or assist with the operation of the Auditions.
  • Provide conditions that combine the best elements of non-competitive and competitive performance.
  • Provide opportunities for public appearance by outstanding students.
